Navigating decisions about guardianship, trusteeship, and decision-making capacity can feel overwhelming. At The Practice Calgary, Dr. Sebastian Saint has completed the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee (OPGT) Capacity Assessment Training and is qualified to conduct capacity assessments in accordance with Alberta’s requirements.

A capacity assessment evaluates an individual’s ability to understand information, make informed decisions, and manage their personal or financial affairs. These assessments are commonly required in two situations:

• Young adults with developmental disabilities who are approaching their 18th birthday, to determine whether a parent or caregiver should continue making personal and/or financial decisions on their behalf through guardianship or trusteeship.
• Older adults experiencing cognitive decline, such as dementia or other age-related conditions, to determine whether additional legal decision-making supports are needed.

Dr. Saint provides assessments for:

• Guardianship Assessments – $500
• Trusteeship Assessments – $500
• Combined Guardianship & Trusteeship Assessments – $700

These fees are regulated under Alberta guidelines.
