Psychodiagnostic Assessments
Psychodiagnostic assessments are comprehensive psychological evaluations designed to help clarify complex mental health concerns, including questions related to personality disorders, emotional functioning, and patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
These assessments provide a deeper understanding of an individual’s psychological presentation and can help inform diagnosis, treatment planning, and next steps for care. A psychodiagnostic assessment may be helpful when concerns are complex, longstanding, or require a more thorough clinical understanding beyond a standard intake assessment.
The assessment process typically includes a detailed clinical interview, completion of standardized questionnaires, and a comprehensive review of assessment information. Following the assessment, the psychologist prepares a written report outlining relevant findings and clinical impressions.
A typical psychodiagnostic assessment includes:
- 1.5–2 hours of clinical interviewing to explore mental health history, current concerns, and relevant life experiences
- Completion of psychological questionnaires to support clinical understanding
- 2–3 hours of report writing to summarize findings and recommendations
Psychodiagnostic assessments are billed at the standard psychological service rate of $235 per hour, in accordance with the recommended fee schedule from the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta.
